CPI June#1

Inflation in Jamaica, as measured by the All-Jamaica Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June 2026 increased by 0.8 per cent.

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN), which released the latest CPI yesterday, reports that the upward movement was primarily driven by a 4.3 per cent rise in the index for the ‘Transport’ division, due to increased route taxi and hackney carriage fares.

There was also an increase in the index for the ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ division, which went up by 0.7 per cent.

This movement was mainly influenced by higher prices for some agricultural produce such as carrots, cabbages, onions and sweet peppers, which contributed to a 2.9 per cent increase in the index for the class ‘Vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas, and pulses’.

Inflation

The inflation rate for June was also influenced by a 0.5 per cent increase in the index for the ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ division, mainly due to higher household rental rates and electricity charges.

The point-to-point inflation rate (June 2025 – June 2026) was 6.7 per cent, breaking the 6% higher barrier, managed by the Bank of Jamaica and set by the Government of Jamaica.

The rise in the point-to-point inflation was mainly influenced by the point-to-point inflation rate for the divisions: ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ (9.8%), ‘Transport’ (7.3%) and ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ (3.5%).

The CPI measures changes in the general level of prices for consumer goods and services purchased by private households.
