The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau’s (GMCVB) Art of Black programme has been recognised with the Cultural Tourism Award by the Arts and Business Council of Miami.

This award is presented to an artist, leader, organisation, or corporation engaged in significant and innovative work at the intersection of the arts and cultural tourism.

Art of Black Miami (AOBM) celebrates Miami and Miami Beach’s artistic diversity, fostering connections among artists, residents, and visitors. The programme plays a role in driving tourism and enriching the cultural landscape of Miami and Miami Beach.

Established in 2014, Art of Black Miami (AOBM) addresses the challenge of connecting Black artists with general patrons and the tourism industry by highlighting emerging and established artists from the Black Diaspora. Now in its 10th year, Art of Black Miami remains a yearlong platform celebrating artistic expression, enhancing visibility, and engaging new audiences.

Over the past decade, AOBM has broadened its impact through initiatives like the Art of Black Miami Podcast Series, amplifying artists’ voices and intertwining their narratives into the city’s vibrant cultural fabric. AOBM has also fostered key partnerships with Miami’s art organisations, galleries, and hospitality partners, particularly in historic neighbourhoods like Historic Overtown, Little Haiti, and Little Havana.

During December each year, Art of Black is at the heart of Miami Art Week/Art Basel Miami Beach with a variety of events showcasing the artistic expressions of the black diaspora.

“The Art of Black collaborative continues to expand awareness of the abundant artistic diversity found within Miami’s mosaic neighbourhood by showcasing the work of artists and museums in our Heritage Neighborhoods,” said Connie Kinnard, Senior Vice President of Multicultural Tourism and Development for the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau. “I encourage residents and visitors to venture out into the communities in Miami-Dade and support some of the unique exhibits, events and other activities throughout the entire destination.”

Art of Black collaborations feature Miami’s artists through residency programs, exhibitions, and commissioned projects to showcase Miami’s artistic richness and forge a thriving business ecosystem. Recent partnerships with the Hilton Miami Airport, Epic, and Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay underscore this commitment.
