In the vibrant and culturally rich city of Miami, the ‘Art of Black Miami‘ podcast series is shining a spotlight on the city’s contemporary Black artists, allowing their voices and narratives to take centre stage.

At the helm of this groundbreaking initiative is Rosie Gordon-Wallace, a Jamaica-born curator whose passion for amplifying diverse voices has made the series a resounding success.

Commissioned by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), the ‘Art of Black Miami‘ podcast is a ten-year programme that celebrates the lives, creations, and exhibitions of Miami’s contemporary Black artists.

Gordon-Wallace, with her deep understanding of the Caribbean diaspora experience and her curatorial expertise, carefully selects the artists each year to be featured in intimate conversations that delve into their creative processes, inspirations, and personal journeys.

“Greater Miami and Miami Beach’s diverse communities are incubators of artistic expressions, and our ‘Art of Black Miami‘ platform serves as a dynamic stage for our visionary artists to share their stories, inspirations and heart-felt journeys,” explained Connie Kinnard, GMCVB senior vice president for multicultural tourism and development .

From Jamaican-American artist Shauna Moulton’s vibrant paintings to Kandy Lopez’s Dominican-inspired sculptures, the series covers a diverse range of mediums and perspectives. Gordon-Wallace’s thoughtful curation ensures that the artists featured represent the full spectrum of the Black diaspora experience, including African-American, Caribbean, and Latinx voices.

“As an art consultant for the GMCVB, I have witnessed how the ‘Art of Black Miami‘ not only shines a spotlight on our artists but also plays a pivotal role in nurturing cultural exchange and fostering mutual understanding,” revealed Gordon-Wallace.

“Through the podcast, our aim is to ignite inspiration, impart knowledge and elevate spirits, all while rejoicing in the profound artistic legacy of our community.”

What sets the ‘Art of Black Miami‘ podcast apart is Gordon-Wallace’s ability to create a safe and empowering space for artists to share their stories without fear of judgment or censorship. Her deep respect for artistic expression and her commitment to fostering a nurturing community have made the podcast a beloved resource for both artists and art enthusiasts alike.

Through the ‘Art of Black Miami‘ podcast, Rosie Gordon-Wallace is not only making an indelible mark on Miami’s cultural landscape but also paving the way for future generations of Caribbean and Black diaspora artists to have their stories heard and celebrated on a global scale.
