As oil prices plummet globally, State-owned Jamaican refinery Petrojam is today (August 4) updating its cost regimen with another slate of ‘next-to-nothing’ cuts.
Petrojam, for eight straight weeks, has shaved 27 cents off its base price for 87-octane gasoline, which now closes at J$213.86, effective Thursday.
The marginal decrease was consistent for nearly all major items on Petrojam’s petroleum product index, with the exception of propane, which rose by 62 cents.
It marks a ‘savings’ total of J$2.03 for Jamaican motorists at the pumps, following a wave of anaemic price cuts by Petrojam. The refinery’s last increase was in June 2022.
It is expected that retailers will add their mark-ups to the announced prices.
