Opposition Spokesperson on Road and Works, Richard Azan, is urging the government to address concerns raised by contractors involved in the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project (SCHIP).
In a statement on Tuesday (May 14), Azan said several contractors have reported delays in payments and ambiguous instructions, which may potentially impede the project moving forward.
“It is disheartening to hear about the difficulties encountered by our local contractors in the execution of the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project,” said Azan. “
These challenges not only hinder the progress of the project but also affect the livelihoods of countless individuals and communities reliant on its success.”

Azan said he recognises the urgency of addressing these issues and stands ready to engage in constructive dialogue with the contractors at their earliest possible convenience.
“We are committed to facilitating discussions that lead to tangible solutions and ensuring that local contractors aren’t treated unfairly in the process,” he said.
