The tension is mounting.

They have already squared off in the Supreme Court, now they may face each other at Jamaica’s top Backgammon tournament taking place at Jamaica Inn hotel this weekend.

National Fuels founder and boss Roy DeCambre and leading commercial attorney PJ Asher will be players at this tournament and both are expected to advance to the latter stages.

Initially, the tournament organisers were concerned that, given the fractious nature of their legal battle around allegations of fraud, an ill-tempered showdown at Jamaica Inn would be too much to take.

Roy DeCambre insists that, as both the Caribbean and Masters Champion, he should have a seat at the table and that his entry should not be a matter of concern.

The matter was resolved and both men will have a chance to exhibit their backgammon skills this weekend.

Other competitors this weekend include: Mark Mahfood, Freddie Moe, Mark Roberts, Warren Burrowes, Gassan Azan, Kynan Cooke, Ruddy Armstrong, Mike Hirst and Jonathan Todd.

Money raised from this Backgammon event will go to the White River Fish Sanctuary.

“This keen attention to the environment is aligned with our mission at TEF to protect the environment and to lead tourism innovation in the areas of transformational infrastructural and sustainable projects,” said Carolyn McDonald-Riley, director of Tourism Linkages Network at the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF).

“Aside from the environmental impact the support of this event has, it also diversifies not only our sporting industry, but also our sports tourism offering,”

Platinum sponsors are TEF, Proven and Coldwell Banker.

Desmond Mair Insurance Brokers is the Gold sponsor while the Jamaica Tourist Board, JMMB Bank and Arosa Limited are the Silver sponsors.
