Jamaicans flocking KFC outlets across the island can expect some disappointment as the local fast food franchise revealed today that a current chicken shortage means they won’t be able to get some of their favourite meals at select stores.
In a statement, KFC said their sole chicken supplier, Jamaica Broilers, was experiencing significant supply challenges that would affect the meals it would be able to provide.
“To our valued customers, due to significant challenges at our sole chicken supplier, Jamaica Broilers, we will be experiencing unforeseen shortages on chicken products,” the statement said.
The company went on to note that it was doing its best to rectify the issue. It added, however, that the problem is beyond its control, suggesting that whatever solutions it attempts to put it place may prove futile.
KFC apologised to its customers for any inconvenience caused and said updates would be provided accordingly.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Please continue to follow us on social media for further updates.”
The announcement was met with mixed feelings from customers on social media platforms Twitter and Instagram.
KFC, arguably the most visited and beloved fast food chain in the country, has raised its food prices multiple times over the past year.
Some persons commenting suggested that the rise in prices might have been linked to a shortage of raw materials, dubbing the recent event ‘karma’.
Many persons argued that the unavailability of chicken from Jamaica Broilers mean the food chain should now look to providing greater to support to local farmers.
On Instagram, @Jazminechung said: “Go buy a couple chicken from the small scale farmers, ano Jamaican broilers alone deh bout…. back yard chicken probably even healthier.”
