The Barbados Meteorological Service has issued a flash flood warning for the island’s western, central and southwestern districts as it anticipates heavy rain on Sunday (October 18).
According to the Met Service’s advisory, a weak surface trough and a mid-level ridge pattern are currently the island’s two dominant weather influcences, with the flash flood warning remaining in effect from 10:40 am to 6:00 pm local time.
In the meantime, citizens have been urged to take all necessary precautions as the Barbados Met Service forecasts the morning mix of sunshine and clouds will give way to cloudier and overcast conditions.
The forecast further stated that occasional intermittent moderate to heavy showers are likely this afternoon, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the west, southwest, central and northeast districts.
Maximum rainfall accumulations up to 100 millimetres in ‘violent’ showers are expected in the four districts.
Barbadians within the warning areas have also been advised to stay off roads if possible and continue to monitor updates from official government sources.
