Barbados, on Sunday (October 17), welcomed the inaugural flight of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to the island.

The Grantley Adams International Airport welcomed the maiden KLM Royal Dutch flight, which also landed in Trinidad and Tobago as the carrier’s newest winter destinations.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is making history again with its first sold-out flight from Amsterdam to Barbados. KLM was also the first commercial airline to arrive at Seawell Airport in Barbados on October 19, 1938.

The KLM flight crew and passengers were greeted by Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Lisa Cummins; Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Cor Stouten and Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Anthony Gittens.

The greeting party also included BTMI’s Interim Head of Global Markets, Cheryl Carter; and Claude Sarre, General Manager, Caribbean for KLM.

Creating greater access and seamless connectivity to and from major European countries and regions, the non-stop flight from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Grantley Adams International Airport will operate three days a week Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

Departing Amsterdam at 12:25 p.m. CET and arriving at BGI 4:45 p.m. AST, the service will run until March 31st, 2022.
