Ivory Aquino, a cast member of the recently cancelled Batgirl film, is begging Warner Brothers Discovery CEO, David Zaslav to release the movie.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the American studio cancelled the action film under the instruction of Zaslav, despite it being 90 per cent complete.

The Warner Brothers Discovery merger has led to drastic changes within the company.

There have been several projects cancelled at HBO Max and existing original shows being pulled from the platform.

In an open letter on Twitter, Aquino shared that she saw an article by The Hollywood Reporter that said the movie will be privately screen by Warner Bros.

Then, it would be destroyed.

“If this is the case, as one of many who poured our hearts into the making of this movie, I ask that this measure be reconsidered.”

Aquino is an American-Filipino actress who was expected to play the role of Alysia Yeoh in the cancelled film. In the film, Yeoh is Batgirl’s best friend and a transwoman.

Aquino said she was very emotionally attached to the film and looked forward to its release.

“It is a father-daughter story which hits close to home. My dad passed a year ago, shortly before I booked this project, and I was hoping it would resonate with other children around the world, grown and not-so-grown, who hold their fathers in the highest esteem and who could see Batgirl as a story of that special bond.”

She added that it was unfair to the creators of the film whose work will not be seen by the public.

“My heart goes out to Leslie Grace and our beloved directors and entire crew and cast who spent months dedicating their all to this endeavour… one seemingly small movement by this large cog may seem relatively tiny, but for those little cogs at the bottom, they can be spinning tenfold and the effects can be seismic.”

Aquino added that the film was initially cancelled as it was projected it would cause Warner Brothers a great lost.

However, she said, given the recent publicity that the show has got due to its cancellation, the decision should be reviewed.

“Now, more people know about our labour of love and are eager to see the movie. I do hope you get to read this letter. Consider releasing Batgirl. She’s always been an underdog and has nowhere to go but up,” Aquino pleaded.

Since the release of her letter, Aquino has received support from supporters of the action film who are petitioning for it to be released.
