Bellevue Hospital says it will dedicate a newly established family room to Jamaican midfielder Leon Bailey, recognising his contributions to improving conditions for patients and their families.

The official ceremony is set for Friday (March 14), with Bailey among three key sponsors of the J$3 million project.

Bailey joins the Bounty Killer Foundation and donor Suzette Thompson in supporting the initiative, which hopes to enhance patient care at Jamaica’s largest mental health facility. In addition to his role in the family room project, Bailey will donate an additional J$500,000 to Bellevue.

Bailey noted the importance of mental health care, stating it is as vital as physical health and that everyone deserves support and comfort.

Bounty Killer has also been a long-standing supporter of mental health initiatives. Last September, through his foundation, he donated air conditioning units, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and televisions to Bellevue, benefiting over 400 patients. The dancehall veteran has spoken against the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly among men.

Bellevue Hospital remains at the forefront of mental healthcare in Jamaica, relying on both public and private partnerships to improve services.

Bailey and Bounty Killer’s donations and support are markers of the growing support system being cultivated among Jamaican public figures in national development.
