Mohammed Ben Sulayem has secured another term as president of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) after an election in which he faced no challengers.
A quirk in the federation’s rules meant no other candidates could step forward, leaving the 64-year-old Emirati as the lone option on the ballot.
He received 91.51 per cent of the vote during the FIA General Assembly in Tashkent, with 8.5% of eligible clubs choosing not to back him despite there being no alternative. His new four-year term will run until December 2029.
