Owing to the island-wide disruptions caused by the passage of Hurricane Beryl, SL Benfica and the Sports Innovators Group (SIG) have rescheduled the highly anticipated summer football camp to July 26.

Last July, the Portuguese football giants held for the first time a football camp in Jamaica.

The initiative, hosted in Sabina Park and done in partnership with Nexus Global, saw over 80 young athletes engaged in drills and training in the club’s style and format.

Benfica coaches Francisco Henriques and Tiago Marques were dispatched from Portugal to provide to aspiring footballers between the ages of six and 17 for a week of the ‘Benfica Methodology’, alongside the club’s principles and values for youth football training.

Due to the success of 2023’s programme, Benfica announced intentions to host a similar initiative once more in this year, following a nearly identical timeframe.

This time, the football camp was to be made available to both boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17, hosted again in Kingston.

However, the arrival of Hurricane Beryl would require a change in plans.

Though forced to delay their programme, the Sports Innovators Group has released a statement to
ensure those interested that despite the sudden complications, the event would still go on, with all
the same levels of preparation and dedication being given to the project.

Benfica’s football camp will be taking place at the Barbican Astro-Turf football field, with a morning and
afternoon session each day. Each participant will receive a full Benfica academy uniform and kit,
alongside water and other refreshments to stay hydrated.

Registration remains open, at US$300 (or J$47,000) per participant.
