The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council’s (JCPC) decision to quash dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel’s and his three co-accused’s conviction on Thursday (March 14), has left the fate of the four men back in the hands of the Jamaica Court of Appeal.

The JCPC quashed the convictions on the grounds of juror misconduct.

If the local court declines the retria,l the four men will walk free.

Speaking with Our Today, senior attorney-at-law Bert Samuels, part of the legal defence team of co-accused dancehall artiste Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, says in light of the ruling, the team will be ‘fighting feverishly’ to get the artiste bail at the earliest possible time.

Samuels has previously said that the four men should not be tried again following Thursday’s ruling

“Shawn Campbell is anxious to go home and rejoin his family,” said Samuels.

Shawn Storm was a popular dancehall artiste under the Adijahiem Records label in the mid-2000s.

Alongside other heavyweights such as Popcaan, Black Ryno, and eventually, Tommy Lee Sparta and more under the leadership of Vybz Kartel, they were formally referred to as the Portmore Empire or Gaza.
