American singer Beyoncé better known as Queen Bee is today (August 23) turning heads after a history-making appearance in a new Tiffany and Company campaign.
The campaign entitled “About Love” features the All Night singer alongside her rapper husband Jay-Z, a powerhouse couple who epitomize the “modern love story”.
Of particular note, is the campaign’s inclusion of the iconic 128.54 carats Tiffany Diamond, worn by Beyonce, who is only the fourth woman to have worn the luxury jewel, and the first black woman.
The Tiffany Diamond was originally unearthed in South Africa in 1877 and has since been worn by the likes of Mary Whitehouse, wife of American diplomat Edwin Sheldon Whitehouse, Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn, and singer Lady Gaga.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s shoot is the first time the diamond has been featured in an advertising campaign and serves the purpose of illuminating the Carters’ love story which is set against the backdrop of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Equals Pi (1982).
Speaking to the selection of the couple for the campaign, Alexandre Arnault, executive vice president of product and communications, expressed “Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the epitome of the modern love story.”
“As a brand that has always stood for love, strength and self-expression, we could not think of a more iconic couple that better represents Tiffany’s values.”
The “About Love” campaign, shot by Mason Poole, is launching globally on September 2.
As part of the partnership, Beyoncé and Jay-Z have also filmed a video advert that will feature Beyoncé’s rendition of Moon River, the famed song from the 1961 movie Breakfast At Tiffany’s.
According to the company, “About Love” reflects Tiffany’s continued support of underrepresented communities and as part of the company’s partnership with the Carters, “Tiffany & Co. is proud to pledge a US$2 million commitment towards scholarship and internship programs for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).”
