Sprint superstar Usain Bolt has donated JMD 2 million to his alma mater, William Knibb Memorial High School, to support the track and field team’s preparation for the upcoming ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Championships (Champs).

Bolt always supported his past school with annual donations of JMD 500,000 with assistance with other essentials. In 2022, he donated $2 million. In addition to this, he is known to give support to the school’s other sports teams, such as their football team by donating footwear and gear from Puma.

After receiving the donation two weeks ago, Principal Linvern Wright said in a school assembly that Bolt’s donation will help the team prepare for the highly anticipated Champs event. He also lauded the sprint icon’s continued support of the school, regardless of his personal financial issues.

“He has sent a message to us, he has sent a message to the school…” said Wright. “He said, ‘Principal, no matter what is happening, what you hear happening out there to me, I am still committed to my school. I’m still committed to contributing to the school. Whatever is happening to me, whatever I am missing right now, is not going to affect the commitment I made to the school of $2 million for Champs,’”

Bolt has since taken to his social media to give even more support to his old school by quoting their motto in a caption, “Ignorance Enslave, Knowledge Liberates.”
