Andre Russell achieved a major personal milestone today (April 29) when he scored an unbeaten 45 for Kolkata Knight Riders during their match against the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Russell, who was also celebrating his 33rd birthday, has now scored 6,000 T20 runs and joined five other West Indian players – Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Lendl Simmons, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Smith – who have scored 6000 runs or more in T20 cricket.
He got his 6000th run in the 16th over of KKR’s inning when he whipped an Ishant Sharma full-toss between deep midwicket and wide long-on for two runs. Overall, he hit two fours and four sixes in his top score that came from just 27 balls.
KKR LOSE FOURTH MATCH OF TOURNAMENT
He has now scored 6036 T20 runs at an average of 26.82 and a strike rate of 166.45. During the course of those 6000 runs he has hit 416 fours and 473 sixes. He has scored two T20 hundreds. In the Indian Premier League, Russell has scored 1635 runs in 80 matches at an average of 29.68 and a strike rate of 179.67.
Notwithstanding his personal milestones, Russell’s day did not end as he would have liked as KKR lost their fourth match of the tournament.
Russell’s knock had helped KKR to 154 for 6 from their 20 overs.
However, Privthi Shaw struck 11 fours and three sixes in a 41-ball 82 to propel Delhi Capitals to 156-3 and victory by seven wickets with 21 balls to spare
