The Bob and Rita Marley Foundations have announced plans for a series of Labour Day activities on Thursday, May 23, extending an open invitation to the public to join and participate in the commemoration.

Labour Day holds a special significance for the foundations, which have long been committed to community service and empowerment. This year, the foundations will collaborate with the Christian Ambassadors and Referees for their annual Labour Day project.

The day will commence with the cleaning of Bob Marley’s revered statue at Independence Park, followed by a cleanup effort at the football field of Excelsior High School.

Adding to the vibrancy of the occasion, footballers from Cedella Marley’s “Football is Freedom Initiative” will lend their support.

This grassroots football programme, aimed at nurturing the talents of young female footballers, aligns perfectly with the foundations’ mission of fostering community engagement and empowerment.

The day’s activities will culminate in the “Bring Back the Love After Labour Day Football Matches” at the Harbour View Mini Stadium.

Scheduled for 4:00 pm, the matches will feature spirited competitions between the Christian Ambassadors Team and Referees Team, followed by the Singers INVTL Team versus DJs INVTL Team matchup at 6:00 pm.

This event will also serve as a tribute to the legacies of Lance Whittaker, Ka’Bu, and Derrick Wilks, with musical entertainment provided by Snipa International.

Alicia Williams, manager of the Bob and Rita Marley foundations, expressed her delight at the partnership with Busy Campbell and Masters and Celebrities for the “Bring Back the Love After Labour Day Football Matches”.

“Our collaboration with Busy Campbell has been consistently fruitful, and we are thrilled to extend this partnership to another meaningful event. The annual Bob Marley One Love Fun Day Football Matches, which we co-host with Busy, have always been a source of joy and inspiration. We anticipate a similarly positive outcome for this event,” she shared.
