Reggae Legend Bob Marley

The Bob Marley Foundation has launched ‘Take a Lift Initiatives’, a non-profit venture to give back to communities to commemorate the reggae legend’s 78th birthday.

The initiative commenced in January and is set to span three months. The Take a Lift Initiative is targeted at several renovation projects such as the renovation of dorms and the kitchen for the Maxfield Park Children’s Home, renovations to a kitchen at the Mary’s Child Facility for teenage mothers, providing equipment for the Victoria Jubilee Hospital and constructing a new music room at De La Vega Community Centre. The renovation projects are estimated at a total cost of US$83,000.

The foundation is now urging corporate partners to join in executing its community initiative.

This initiative is the final event on the roster that has been executed by the foundation to celebrate Marley’s 78th birthday. Among the list of events that were executed by the foundation was a ‘Skanking on Main Street Concert’ held at Rose Hall beach in Montego Bay, St James, a beach cleanup at Roxborough beach in St Ann, ‘Take It Easy at Bob Marley Museum’, among others.

The Bob Marley Foundation is a non-profit organisation that was founded by his wife, Rita Marley, in 1986 with the aim of impacting lives through community development initiatives targeting areas of healthcare, sports, education, culture and sustainable development.
