Manny Pacquiao, one of boxing’s most celebrated champions, will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2025. The Hall of Fame announced his selection on Friday, December 6, a deserved recognition of his unparalleled sports achievements.
The 45-year-old Filipino icon, nicknamed ‘The Pambansang Kamao’ (The People’s Fist), is the only boxer to win world titles in eight weight divisions. From 1995 to 2021, Pacquiao’s rise through the ranks—from flyweight to super welterweight—solidified his status as one of the most versatile and accomplished fighters of all time.
Pacquiao’s career highlights include memorable victories over legends such as Oscar De La Hoya, Marco Antonio Barrera, Miguel Cotto, and Juan Manuel Marquez. In 2019, at age 40, he became the oldest welterweight champion in boxing history after defeating Keith Thurman for the WBA title.
Retiring in 2021 with a record of 62 wins, eight losses, and two draws, Pacquiao has remained active in exhibition matches, most recently facing Japanese mixed martial artist Rukiya Anpo, 29, in July 2024. His induction into the IBHOF makes him the second Filipino and Asian fighter to receive the honour, following Gabriel ‘Flash’ Elorde’s 1993 enshrinement.
The 2025 induction class also includes boxers Michael Nunn and Vinny Paz, along with renowned referee Kenny Bayless. The enshrinement ceremony will take place from June 5 to 8 in Canastota, New York, the Hall of Fame’s home.
Pacquiao’s enduring influence, both in and out of the ring, solidifies his unquestionable legacy as a boxing legend and a worthy ambassador for the sport.
