Natoya Goule battled bravely for approximately 600 metres but faded badly in the last 200 metres to finish eighth in the final of the women’s 800 metres at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Tuesday (August 3).
Goule ran behind eventual winner Athing Mu of the United States of America (USA) from the cut in after the first 100 metres.
With 200 metres left, Goule tried to go with Mu, but started to tire and was eventually passed by all the other six competitors in the race.
The 19-year-old Mu, won the event in a national record of 1:55.21, with another 19-year-old Keely Hodgkinson of Great Britain, also establishing a new national record of 1:55.88 for the silver medal with the other American in the field, Raevyn Rogers getting the bronze in a personal best of 1:56.81.
