Glenn McIrvine Mason, a 54-year-old British national has been arrested after attempting to smuggle cocaine on a flight from Jamaica destined for London-Gatwick on September 30.
Mason, a counselor and social worker, was intercepted by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) while attempting to board the flight.
During a search of his suitcase, authorities discovered two pairs of slippers with hidden compartments containing approximately 1.5 pounds of a white powdery substance resembling cocaine.
Investigations are ongoing, and charges against Mason are forthcoming.
This arrest follows the apprehension of two other British nationals, Nenisha Nelson-Roberts and Shelby Chyna Byng, on August 16, 2024, at Sangster International Airport, where they were found with 14 pounds of cocaine disguised as porridge mixes and coffee.
Since January 2024, the FNID has arrested 27 foreign nationals for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act, signaling Jamaica’s firm stance against drug trafficking.
The quick action in Mason’s case underscores the effectiveness of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in disrupting illicit drug activities and securing the nation’s borders.
