Despite COVID-19 locking down clubs worldwide, the R&B/Hip Hop music scene is about to get exciting again!

On Thursday, fans of eclectic genius Bruno Mars got the news they’ve been waiting for when he revealed he’s finally bringing new music to the world after being gone for almost two years.

Mars, in an Instagram post, shared that he teamed up with Anderson Paak for a new band called Silk Sonic.

“We locked in and made an album. The band’s called Silk Sonic. First song drops next Friday 3/5,” Mars wrote.

On his social media, Paak wrote on his social media, “WE MADE AN ALBUM!! YALL GET THE FIRST SONG NEXT FRIDAY 3/5!! ROCKET EMOJIS AND ALL THAT!!!”

LAST SINGLE RELEASED IN 2019

Mars’ last album, 24K Magic, was released in November 2016, but his last single, Blow, featuring Ed Sheeran and Chris Stapleton, came out in July 2019.

Mars announcement came the same day many Drake fans were hoping to finally hear his hotly anticipated new album, Certified Lover Boy, but it was not to be.

Drake was initially expected to drop CLB, his sixth album, last summer, but postponed it until January 2021 as a result of the pandemic, despite releasing lead single Laugh Now Cry Later featuring Lil Durk last August.

However, in January, Drake said he’d have to delay the album for a second time as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

APRIL OR BEFORE FOR ‘CERTIFIED LOVER BOY

With speculation about a last Thursday release now up in smoke, YouTube personality Dj Akademiks has now brought some hope and anticipation back to Drake fans.

““Drake told me that it’s gonna be dropping before April,” Akademiks said on Twitch. “So, he’s not waiting until summer to drop his s@#$t… April or before.”

A new single featuring Bruno Mars in March and a Drake album in April?

Life is good!
