Bunny Shaw returns to Reggae Girlz team to face South Africa in MoBay

Jamaica’s premier player Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw makes a return to the Reggae Girlz team for the two International Friendlies against South Africa at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on November 29 at 8:00 pm and December 2 at 7:30 pm.

Shaw, the Reggae Girlz inspirational captain and Jamaica’s all-time goalscorer with 55 goals in 42 games missed the match against France on October 25 where they were punished 0-3.

The Manchester City striker has been in tremendous form where she became the record holder of hattricks in the English Women’s Super League with six. This will be Jamaica’s first game on local soil since September 2023 when they played Canada in the Olympic qualifying playoff.

Besides Shaw, former captain Konya Plummer returns along with versatile defender Siobhan Wilson who had been out for nine months with an ACL injury. Defensive midfielder Peyton McNamara also earns a recall.

Meanwhile, Liverpool captain Taylor Hinds who made her debut against France was left out along with fellow new invitees from the last camp Lulu Jarvis, Reanna Blades and Natasha Thomas.

Former Jamaican captain Konya Plummer makes a return to the team.

Two young players in Destiny Powell and Naya Cardoza received their first call-up to the senior team.

The squad:

  • Goalkeepers: Rebecca Spencer and Liya Brooks.
  • Defenders: Allyson Swaby, Chantelle Swaby, Deneisha Blackwood, Vyan Sampson, Konya Plummer, Siobhan Wilson and Naya Cardoza.
  • Midfielders: Drew Spence, Jade Bailey, Atlanta Primus, Paige Bailey-Gayle, Olufolasade Adamolekun, Peyton McNamara and Destiny Powell,
  • Forwards: Khadija Shaw, Jody Brown, Shania Hayles, Kayla McKenna, Davia Richards, Shaniel Buckley and Tiffany Cameron.

The Reggae Girlz are hunting a third consecutive appearance at the FIFA World Cup in 2027 and qualification starts in 2025 and these games are crucial in their preparation.
