Veteran business news broadcaster Owen James passed away this evening.

For many years he was the voice of TVJ’s ‘Business Day’ and was well respected in his field.

He was a professional journalist for decades and in his early years worked as a reporter at the Gleaner Company and went on to become editor of the Star.

In his latter years, he went out as an independent news broadcaster, forming his own company.

Our Today’s CEO Al Edwards reflected: “Owen was a fantastic TV broadcast journalist who took pride in how he went about his work. He was always so well informed. He was the voice of Jamaican business news for so many years. I always regarded him as Jamaica’s answer to Dan Rather. His was an authoritative voice.

“He was a friend and colleague and I will miss him. He always imparted invaluable advice. He was the consummate broadcaster. I knew he was ailing in recent years but this news comes as a shock. He was a credit to our profession.
