Businesses are encouraged to be a part of the upcoming Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition by sponsoring a contestant in their parish.
Sponsors will be among the key stakeholders who are expected to participate in the crowning of the parish queens selected to compete in the National Finals.
The event, organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), forms part of the Emancipation and Independence celebrations. Coordinator of the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition, Andrea McCurdy, told JIS News that businesses can sponsor a contestant at the community level as well as at the national level.
“We are saying to community businesses and business operators to come on board and sponsor a girl,” she said. She noted that contestants must be between the ages of 18 and 30. Additionally, they must be born in the parish they represent or have resided there for not less than six months before the parish contest.
The Coordinator is encouraging young women to participate in the competition while highlighting the personal growth and development it offers.

“It teaches you valuable life skills and helps you discover more about yourself. Many persons come in shy and uncertain and through the process they learn to step out, to be bold. You learn to interface with other persons and it’s all part of your growth and development,” she said.
In addition, she emphasised that the competition provides a platform for visibility, especially for young women with passion and talent, who need the opportunity to be seen.
“Whether at the parish or national level, it offers a chance for recognition,” she said. She also pointed out that even though the contestant might not win the competition at the parish level, “somebody in the audience is seeing you and is hearing what you are doing, hearing your passion, seeing your talent, and getting to know you. That exposure is invaluable”.
The deadline for the submission of applications for the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition is at midnight on March 14, 2025. Applications for the competition can be submitted online at https://jcdc.awardsplatform.com/
