A businessman has been charged with fraudulent conversion following an investigation into payments made for the importation of a motor vehicle between Thursday, July 3, 2025, and Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Charged is 36-year-old Kevaughn Black of Tunbridge Terrace, Kingston 6.

Reports are that the complainant expressed interest in purchasing a 2021 Toyota Hilux GR Sport motor vehicle for JMD $8,750,000. A down payment of JMD $4,000,000 in cash was made, and a receipt was issued.

He was told the vehicle would arrive within nine weeks. On Friday, December 12, 2025, the complainant was told that the car had arrived, and a second payment of JMD $4,000,000 was made.

The complainant was later informed on several occasions that the vehicle was being cleared and would be ready for pickup.

However, it was not delivered. On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, he was again promised the vehicle but did not receive it and requested a refund. Black reportedly promised refunds on Monday, February 2, and Tuesday, February 3, 2026; however, no refund was made. The matter was then reported to the police.

On Thursday, February 12, Black attended the Half-Way-Tree CIB office, accompanied by his attorney, where he was placed in custody and subsequently charged following a question-and-answer session. His court date is being finalised.
