Robert Bell, the 65-year-old businessman caught on video assaulting a nurse last week, was denied bail when he appeared in the Gun Court on Wednesday (May 21).
The accused, who otherwise known as Andy Bell, is facing a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the alleged road-rage attack on the nurse.
During the incident last Tuesday, Bell reportedly left his vehicle, shoved his head inside the nurse’s car, spat in her face and struck the vehicle repeatedly with his hand.
The woman reportedly left her vehicle to check for damage when she saw Bell with a handgun. He allegedly flung her to the ground and physically assaulted her, causing swelling and bruises all over her body.
Bell’s attorney, Christopher Townsend, in his application for bail, argued that his client is a good candidate for release from custody, citing Bell’s standing in his community. Townsend also argued that Bell was about to report to the police when he was arrested at his St Andrew home.
The police also told the court that Bell was not deemed a threat to the community, but Senior Puisne Judge Lorna Shelly Williams refused bail, noting concerns for Bell’s safety amid viral videos of the incident.
Bell will next appear in court on July 9.
