Jouvaughnie Byfield, Junior Shadow Minister of Citizen Security and Productivity, is advocating for the establishment of a dedicated police post in Port Maria, following the recent relocation of officers to Trinity due to the poor condition of the previous station.
While acknowledging the necessity of the move, Councillor Byfield stressed the importance of maintaining law and order in the town.
“A police post in Port Maria is crucial to ensure effective policing in the business district. This presence will enable beat duties, provide much-needed visibility, and serve as a deterrent to criminal activities. It will also allow for a rapid response to incidents as they arise,” he said.
Byfield highlighted the increased need for security with the Christmas season approaching, calling for a proactive approach to policing. “The safety and well-being of our residents must remain a priority. Establishing a police post in Port Maria will bolster our crime-fighting efforts and help safeguard our community.”
He is urging the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to act swiftly to ensure that Port Maria remains safe and secure for both residents and businesses alike.
