After a five-year absence due in the main to the Covid pandemic, the acclaimed literary festival held at Jakes in Treasure Beach is back.
The festival kicked off on Friday evening with a stellar array of writers and poets whose credentials would need pages to list. As if that was not enough, the indelible performer Tanya Stephens closed the show.
The excitement of the audience was summed up best by Ingrid Persaud, author of the multi-prize-winning debut novel, Love After Love.
“I would not normally welcome back a lover absent for 5 years but when it comes to my lover-lover, Calabash, I make an exception. Her intellect, grace and humour caress the shores of Treasure Beach, allowing us to sink into a sea of writings that say the unsayable. Calabash has turned the sadness of that long goodbye into a goodbye to sadness. And what better way to honour her than to speak about love in its many forms.”

Ingrid began her segment with an ode to Calabash, “I would not normally welcome back a lover absent for 5 years but when it comes to my lover-lover, Calabash, I make an exception. Her intellect, grace and humour caress the shores of Treasure Beach, allowing us to sink into a sea of writings that say the unsayable. Calabash has turned the sadness of that long goodbye into a goodbye to sadness. And what better way to honour her than to speak about love in its many forms.”
Welcome back Calabash.
