Dalton Myers, a former Director of Sport at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus, has been appointed Assistant Director of the High-Performance Sport at the Carleton University Department of Athletics and Recreation.

He takes up his position as of September 1, 2021, the university, based in Ottawa, Ontario, announced on Wednesday (August 11).

“I am excited to be joining the Carleton Ravens family, and I am looking forward to working with the team and building on the many successes over the years,” said Myers, who worked for the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) as their Corporate Planner and was responsible for developing and implementing strategies that enhance the games management support for the national teams and coordinating for IOC funding applications.

“I believe that my experiences will help me lead Carleton into this new era. I would like to thank Jennifer Brenning and her team for showing confidence in my abilities and giving me the opportunity to work with and develop strategies for the continued success of the high-performance teams.”

Brenning was excited about Myers joining the staff at the university.

“I am thrilled that Dalton has agreed to join our team,” said Jennifer Brenning, the Assistant Vice President (Recreation and Athletics). “With Dalton’s impressive experience, knowledge and passion for elite sport along with his strong personal skills, Dalton will bring an innovative approach to supporting our high-performance coaches and student-athletes at Carleton University.”

Myers has a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from Ohio University and a Master’s of Philosophy (Cultural Studies) from The UWI.  While an undergraduate completing his Bachelor of Science and International Relations degree, Dalton was also a student-athlete in track and field.

During his seven years as the Director of Sports at UWI, Myers led the establishment of the University’s high-performance sports programme.  He was instrumental in developing the strategic plan to ensure high-quality sport performances.

As part of that plan, Myers developed innovative partnerships that transformed their programs. He collaborated with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to provide excellent training facilities and human resource support for the UWI’s soccer programmes.  In addition, he helped to create an Academy Centre for a holistic approach to the development of individual soccer players.

Myers also developed a Sports Scholarship programme, raising much-needed funds to support scholar-athletes.   The UWI is now recognised for its excellent championship programs and student-athlete high performance.

Myers has also worked as a sports columnist and sports broadcaster; he hosts a popular sport podcast called The Drive Phase, which has featured some of Jamaica’s elite Olympians including Tokyo 2020 triple gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah.
