American rap star Cardi B has become the first female rapper to sell 10 million copies of record, a feat she achieved with her debut single Bodak Yellow.

Cardi received her recognition from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on Monday (March 8), when it awarded her record RIAA Diamond certification.

Bodak Yellow vaulted to the top of the charts in 2017 and is still a bop today.

The Up rapper took to social media platforms Twitter and Instagram to share the exciting news with her fans after receiving the award.

The 28-year-old rapper posted a video to Twitter last night of a funny story about wanting to avoid her record label (Atlantic Records), and still being driven to meet with them amid the pandemic, only to be pleasantly surprised to hear what they had to say.

However, fans knew almost immediately about Cardi’s latest achievement, causing her to question how they were so on top of it. She said she was too overcome with emotion to celebrate more on Twitter.

Reactions from other well-known celebrities are also rolling in.

Tweeting her congrats, Cyn Santana said: “Cardi B has just made herstory!!! Bongrats”

Well-known author Sean T. Collins tweeted:

Queen of rap Nicki Minaj also congratulated Cardi.

To top things off, Cardi’s 2020 blockbuster single, WAP, featuring Meghan Thee Stallion, just made it halfway to achieving RIAA Diamond status as well. It’s been certified platinum five times over.

It is of no surprise that the former Love & Hip-Hop star fits into the category ‘record breaking’.

Ever since her debut, she has been making hit singles one after the other with a number topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Cardi B is the first female artiste to have a No. 1 hit in two different decades, and the first female solo artiste to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album.
