Carey McLeod set a new meet and stadium record in the long jump at the University of Louisville Clark Woods Memorial on Friday (April 23).

The red-shirt sophomore at the University of Tennessee bounded out to 8.21m in what was his first jump and only legal attempt of the competition.  The mark obliterated the previous stadium record of 8.06m set by Arkansas’ Alain Bailey in 2009.

It also destroyed the meet record of 7.63m by Louisville’s Wesley Smith that was also established in 2009.

FORMER KINGSTON COLLEGE STANDOUT SET PERSONAL BEST IN MARCH

The former Kingston College standout, who set a personal best and school record 8.26m indoors in March, was leagues ahead of the competition as he was more than a half-metre better than teammate Anthony Riley whose best mark of 7.54m was enough for second place.

Jeremiah Willis of Louisville won third place with his leap of 7.44m.

McLeod’s winning jump was the second best by a Jamaican outdoors this year. Only Tajay Gayle’s world-leading 8.27m is better.
