Caribbean champion Cavalier SC stayed in touch with the leaders after blanking Dunbeholden FC 2-0 in their Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League game at the Dunbeholden Sports Complex on Sunday.
Christopher Ainsworth opened the scoring in the 68th minute before Adrian Reid sealed the victory, scoring in the 77th minute as Cavalier moved to 31 points to be six points adrift of the leader Mount Pleasant who will be in action on Monday night.
It was Dunbeholden’s 10th loss of the season from 17 games and they remained in 12th spot on 15 points, just two above the dreaded relegation zone. Former champions Portmore United blanked Vere United 2-0 at the Wembley Centre of Excellence and remained in fifth spot on 27 points. Tarick Ximinez (15th) and Tedj Bryan (53rd) scored for Portmore United.
Vere United which was suffering their ninth loss, are sitting in 10th spot with 16 points with a slim chance of making the top six playoffs.
At Drewsland, the visiting Tivoli Gardens stunned home team Waterhouse FC 1-0 courtesy of a Nickalia Fuller strike in the 70th minute from the penalty spot. Tivoli Gardens on 23 points in seventh spot, moved to within four points of Waterhouse in sixth spot on 27 points.
In the first match at Drewsland, Chapelton Maroon and Molynes United 0-0. Chapelton are eighth on 17 points while Molynes stayed in ninth also on 17 points.
At the Compound, home team Harbour View scored late in stoppage time to earn a share of the points against Humble Lion in a 1-1 draw. Not even a goal from medical doctor James Thomas could resuscitate Humble Lion’s moribund fate of relegation.
James converted a 24th-minute penalty that gave the struggling Humble Lion the lead but Timar Lewis netted in the 90+4 minute and denied Humble Lion of their second win.
It was a deflating draw for Humble Lion as they remained at the bottom of the 14-team league with 11 points while Harbour View are in 13th with 13 points.
