CARICOM condemns violent attack on Jamaica Consulate office in Haiti

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has condemned the recent attack on the Sun Auto Car Dealership in Port-au-Prince which also house Jamaica’s Consulate Office.

In a statement on Friday (June 16), CARICOM said that this act of violence has sadly caused the indefinite suspension of consular services offered by the Government of Jamaica.

“CARICOM strongly condemns this and other such acts which cause damage to property and people,” the statement said.

CARICOM further expressed its deep committed to ongoing dialogue and other efforts towards a Haitian-led solution to the ongoing crisis in “out sister country, Haiti”.

Reports are that the Sun Auto Car Dealership in Port-au-Prince was set ablaze and ransacked by criminal gangs on June 12.

The Consulate of Jamaica was located on the premises.
