The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 49th Carifta Games scheduled for Kingston from April 16 – 18, is reporting that up to 600 athletes and officials are expected for the Games, based on the provisional entries received to date.

This was revealed during a virtual meeting on Monday (January 31) with all the participating countries.

With 74 days to go, LOC Chairman Mike Fennell is urging the 27 participating nations to be ready with their athletes and officials for the three-day event in Kingston.

The meeting, which was convened from the offices of the JAAA in Kingston, provided a second update in two months regarding border control, accommodation, competition, media and broadcast rights, air and ground travel.

Fennell noted that “there is clearly a lot of excitement about the Games and at the same time reasons to know what special conditions will be required”.

The draft of the technical manual was discussed in detail and there was a question-and-answer session followed.

Ian Forbes, head of competitions and newly-minted Custos Rotolorum of St Andrew, provided the responses.

The LOC is reporting that numerical entries are due by February 15 while final entries must be in by April 1.

A maximum of 80 competitors and 12 officials are allowed to participate in the event.

This is the eighth time Jamaica is hosting the Games.
