
17th country in the world in the New York Times’ COVID-19 rankings

The Cayman Islands is now the top Caribbean country with COVID-19 based on the New York Times‘ COVID-19 rankings.
This has come about given the recent spike infections. In fact, the New York Times‘ COVID-19 ranking has placed the Caribbean territory as 17th in the world in terms of COVID-19 cases, due to a surge in Omicron-related infections.
There are currently 6,545 individuals actively infected with COVID-19. Included in these numbers are two new cases and 67 active cases reported in the Sister Islands.
So far, 20 persons have recently been hospitalised, two of whom were newly admitted. Last week, more than 1,000 positive cases were reported to the Public Health Department as the territory struggles with new infections.
CAYMAN ISLANDS AT CDC LEVEL 4
The total number of COVID-19 cases registered in The Cayman Islands is 13,788 with 15 deaths being recorded. The Cayman Islands have administered at least 136,593 doses of COVID vaccines so far.
The Cayman Islands is among those countries at US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Level 4, the highest risk level for COVID-19. The CDC advises US citizens to avoid travel to the Caribbean country.
The CDC further advises citizens that they must travel to The Cayman Islands, make sure they are vaccinated and up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines before travel.
