Following a resurgence in local horseracing last year, Caymanas Park operators, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), says it is ready to continue its momentum of elevating Jamaica’s horse racing experience with an innovative calendar of quarterly race meets for 2025.

The 2024 season culminated in spectacular fashion with the highly successful Mouttet Mile won by
Jason DaCosta trained FunCaanDun who was expertly guided by Robert Halladeen, and an electrifying jockey championship that saw Raddesh Roman taking the title by a nose with a one-win advantage over Tevin Foster on final race day.

The year also proved tremendously rewarding for punters, with 95 new millionaires created and total payouts exceeding J$6.4 billion.

Building on this momentum, Caymanas Park will introduce four distinctive quarterly meets in 2025—George Hosang (January – March), Linval ‘Pickins’ McFarlane (April-June), Eros (July-September) and Wayne DaCosta championship (October-December)—each celebrating legendary figures in Jamaica’s rich horse racing history.

Each quarterly meet honours pillars of Jamaica’s rich racing heritage. Legendary jockey George HoSang, dominated both local and international racing, earning the champion jockey title in Jamaica from 1972 to 1975 and later in Canada from 1979 to 1981, securing his place in the Jamaica Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame.

Linval ‘Pickins’ McFarlane’s dedication to the sport earned him three grooms’ championships and recognition as one of the most decorated grooms in Caymanas Park history, culminating in his Hall of Fame induction and the prestigious None Such Award.

The legendary Eros, whose legacy includes five champion sprinter titles (1991-1994, 1996) and an
unprecedented four track records, showcased the excellence of Jamaica’s thoroughbreds. The final
quarter honours Wayne DaCosta, whose remarkable 18 trainer championships, 2,290 career
winners, single-season record of 108 winners in 2002, and achievement of training two triple crown
winners (War Zone and She’s A Maneater) made him one of Jamaica’s most successful trainers.

DaCosta’s contributions to the sport were recognised with both Hall of Fame induction and the None
Such Award.

“The introduction of these quarterly meets represents our commitment to both honouring Caymanas Park’s rich legacy, celebrating our local legends in the sport and creating new excitement for our passionate racing community,” said Solomon Sharpe, executive chairman at SVREL.

“These themed meets will add another dimension to our racing product while paying tribute to some of the most influential figures in Jamaica’s racing history.”

Each quarterly meet will feature signature races and special events, designed to maintain the high-energy atmosphere that characterised the 2024 season. The initiative aims to provide more structured racing opportunities for owners and trainers while offering fans additional prestigious events throughout the year.

“I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it, Caymanas Park is the greatest place on earth, and I know with innovations like these along with continued efforts to work with our stakeholders to create a racing ecosystem that works for all involved many more will share that perspective,” Sharpe added, reiterating his commitment to continue growing the sport and providing a high-quality experience for fans, both locally and internationally.
