Supreme Ventures Racing & Entertainment Limited (SVREL) will host a vibrant, all-day celebration of World Veterinary Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Caymanas Park, led in proud partnership by the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) and the Jamaica Equine Veterinary Association (JEVA).

This year’s global theme from the World Veterinary Association (WVA), “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health,” will be brought to life at Jamaica’s only racetrack as veterinarians, racing stakeholders, and the wider public come together to recognise the essential role of veterinary professionals in protecting animal welfare, public health, and the integrity of the racing industry.

World Veterinary Day at Caymanas Park will feature educational talks, video presentations, and public engagement activities focused on the vital role veterinarians play in safeguarding both animal and human health.  The event will highlight key areas such as equine welfare, responsible medication use, and biosecurity.

In keeping with this year’s theme, the celebration will also explore the concept of One Health—emphasising the interconnectedness of people, animals, and the environment – public health. Racehorse retirement initiatives will also be highlighted, reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to the long-term care and well-being of horses beyond their racing careers.

Solomon Sharpe, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL) Chairman delivers his presentation on Tuesday at the 2023 Mouttet Mile Invitational launch at the AC Hotel.

As part of the national observance, the Jamaica Veterinary Medical Association (JVMA) will publish a special World Veterinary Day supplement in The Gleaner on Sunday, April 26, 2026. This feature will include insightful contributions from veterinarians and industry leaders across Jamaica, offering diverse perspectives on the year’s theme. Horsemen and racing enthusiasts are encouraged to pick up a copy and look out for equine-focused features from local veterinary professionals.

To honour the legacy and contributions of veterinarians within the racing industry, selected races on the day’s card will be named in recognition of distinguished veterinarians. This will be accompanied by the featured trophy races: The Jamaica Equine Veterinary Association Trophy, and The World Veterinary Day Trophy and The Jamaica Racing Commission Trophy.

The event is open to the public, with participation from veterinary professionals across JEVA, the JVMA, JRC officials, and a wide cross-section of industry stakeholders. Patrons are encouraged to engage with the presentations and activities throughout the day to gain a deeper understanding of the vital role veterinarians play behind every race.
