Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, announced that a celebration for the country’s athletes who participated in the Tokyo Olympic Games will be held in October.

Grange made the announcement on Friday (August 6) as she welcomed home Olympian Megan Tapper.

“We will be celebrating; we’re going to celebrate each and every one of those athletes” said Minister Grange.

“We’ll probably celebrate sometime around October,” she added.

Minister Grange said it was important for the nation to salute the men and women who represented

the country irrespective of their performance, as they all did extremely well.

“We have our disappointments, but I would say overall, I want to thank the athletes for their performance,” Grange said

“They were able to still make Jamaica look good and make Jamaica proud. There were some iconic moments that were very moving, very touching,” Grange added.

Among those in attendance at the welcome home party for Tapper, who arrived on the island from Tokyo Thursday night was the Minister of State, Alando Terrelonge; the Permanent Secretary, Denzil Thorpe; as well as, members of the hurdler’s family including her husband, Matheu; father, Merryck Simmonds; and stepmother, Lisa Gooden.
