Last Sunday’s Golden Globes will forever be etched in the memories of #WakandaForever diehards as the late Chadwick Boseman, best known for his starring role as the titular Marvel superhero in 2018’s Black Panther, posthumously received an award for Best Actor for his final film in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

In his absence, Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted the award on his behalf, in an emotional speech that no doubt left viewers of the awards show saddened and teary eyed in memory of the man who was.

In her speech, Ledward stated: “He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices.”

Though teary eyed and clearly overwhelmed with emotions, she continued: “He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside all of us that tells you that you can … that tells you to keep going, that calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history.”

She continued, making special mention of individuals who were critical the making of Ma Rainey, including director George C. Wolfe, producer Denzel Washington, actress Viola Davis – who played Ma Rainey, and Netflix – the distributors of the film.

In closing, Ledward said: “I don’t have his words, but we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love, so thank you HFPA for giving me the opportunity to do just that.”
