Julien Alfred becomes the first-ever St Lucian Olympic medallist in fine style—claiming gold to win the women’s 100-metre dash final at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris on Saturday (August 3).

Alfred, the fastest qualifier from the semi-finals hours earlier, got off to a bullet start and stormed to the finish line in a national record of 10.72 seconds for the Eastern Caribbean country’s first Olympic medal.

Sha’Carri Richardson, the 2023 World Champion, had to settle for silver (10.87s) ahead of bronze medal compatriot Melissa Jefferson (10.92s).

Young Jamaican Tia Clayton finished seventh in 11.04s.
