In the aftermath of three Westmoreland councillors of the People’s National Party (PNP) tendering their resignations yesterday (July 10), general secretary of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Dr Horace Chang has pledged his support for the disgruntled elected representatives.
In a statement on Monday, Chang said that the JLP has taken note of the resignations which, he argued, are indicative of the continuing decline of the PNP under the leadership of Mark Golding.
Chang said that the JLP supports the councillors in “their struggle for leadership of unquestioned integrity in the politics in Western Westmoreland”.

He reaffirmed the JLP’s commitment to serving the parish of Westmoreland and implementing effective policies and initiatives that will benefit communities, foster growth and improve the lives of the people.
The three councillors: Ian Myles of the Little London Division, Garfield James of the Sheffield Division and Lawton McKenzie of the Grange Hill Division, tendered their resignation on Monday with immediate effect to register their opposition to Ian Hayles being selected to represent the PNP in Western Westmoreland.
