

Chapelton Maroons showed they belong in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) with an impressive 2-0 win over Humble Lion in the Clarendon derby at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Former Arnett Gardens player Demari Deacon, playing on his familiar grounds, opened the scoring for Chapelton with a well-taken volley in the 35th minute. He then turned provider with a well-weighted pass that Gawain Austin nodded home in minute 45. It was Chapelton’s second win of the season from four games and they climbed into seventh spot on six points while the winless Humble Lion slipped to ninth on four points.

Winning coach Oneil ‘Bigga’ Thompson who also played for years at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex and at Humble Lion, was happy for the win. “Today is a reaction of what we want to show and what we are about and the execution was excellent,” said Thompson. “When you do things on the training ground and it comes out in games then you feel like the work and the players are taken on instructions properly and I am extremely proud of the guys today.”
Deacon who was the man of the match, said he wanted to put on a show. “It’s a joy to put on a show at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex because you know I am a born Junglist. I feel wonderful for the three points coming off back-to-back defeats we need this and the coach told us we need to go up the table.”
In the second and feature encounter at the Anthony Spaulding Complex, home team Arnett Gardens were held to a 1-1 draw by Mount Pleasant of St Ann. The consistent Kimani Arbouine gave Arnett Gardens the lead in minute 12 but Kimani Bailey earned a share of the points for Mount Pleasant scoring in the 42nd minute. Arnett Gardens slipped a spot to eighth on five points while Mount Pleasant remained in the fifth spot on seven points.
Meanwhile, Montego Bay United turned in the performance of the round whipping Molynes United 4-0 at Catherine Hall in St James. Former Cavalier striker Shaneil Thomas netted twice in the 25th and 59th minutes while veteran Owayne Gordon scored in the 23rd and Brian Brown completed the rout in minute 74. It was Montego Bay’s fourth win from five games and they jumped to the top of the league on 12 points. Two ahead of Cavalier whose game against Racing United was not played.

Molynes United which was suffering their third defeat from four games, remained in 12th spot on three points.
In the clash of the former champions, Portmore United clipped Harbour View 2-1 and moved into third spot on nine points. Tedj Brown gave Portmore the perfect start scoring in the second minute and Shaquwell Henry found the winner in the 74th minute. Rohan Brown had pulled the Stars of the East levelled in the 60th minute but could not prevent them from losing their second game and they slipped to sixth on seven points.
At Drewsland, home team Waterhouse FC came from behind to beat Vere Phoenix United 2-1 at the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium.
Dayne Ewens had given Vere a seventh-minute lead but a double strike by the ever-dangerous Atapharoy Bygrave in the 18th and 41st minutes turned it around for Waterhouse as they jumped to fourth spot on nine points. Vere which was suffering yet another defeat are 10th on four points.
