

Texas A&M’s Charokee Young won a thrilling 400m race in a new personal best at the 2021 LSU Alumni Gold meeting held at the Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana today.
The former Hydel High 800m standout, clocked 51.49 in a blanket finish with LSU’s Favour Ofili, who was credited with the same time. Though both were given the same time, the A&M sophomore was determined to have crossed the finish line in 51.481 to Ofili’s 51.486 with both times rounded up.
Young’s time eclipsed the 51.52 she ran in Texas on April 3.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Natassha McDonald of Alabama was the other person on the podium having finished third in 51.94.
In other notable performances at the meet, 2021 NCAA 60m hurdles champion, Damion Thomas, who is perhaps in the form of his life this season, having opened up with a world-leading 13.22, had to settle for second today clocking 13.37 in the 100m hurdles won by Alabama’s Robert Dunning in 13.28.
Thomas’ LSU teammate Eric Edwards Jr finished third in 13.46.
In the 100m hurdles, Baylor’s Ackera Nugent finished third in a season-best 12.87. The NCAA 60m hurdles champion was beaten by LSU’s Tonea Marshall, who clocked a fast 12.53 for the win. Texas’ outstanding hurdler and jumper Tara Davis was second in 12.61.
The Jamaican Davis, Kevona finished second in the 200m. The former Edwin Allen star clocked 23.15, beaten only by her teammate Kynnedy Flannel who crossed the finish line in 22.75.
Thelma Davies of LSU clocked 23.29 for third.
