The news that Enzo Maresca has been sacked as Head Coach of Chelsea has sparked plenty of debate as to who should replace him.

Current favourite is former Hull City coach Liam Rosenoir who now is in charge of Strasbourg.

Chelsea would do well to appoint former Chelsea legendary coach Jose Mourinho and former Captain Fantastic John Terry as a coaching management team to return the club to its glory days.

Since the German Thomas Tuchel left, Chelsea has struggled to be a major force in both European and English football. It has been eclipsed by Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool and is now regarded as a team that sits below the Top Four, more likely to qualify for the Europa League.

Chelsea needs to reassert itself as a top European club and to do so it will need a renowned and respected coach. Liam Rosenoir does not fit the bill –  Jose Mourinho does.

There are those who say at 62, Jose Mourinho is a spent force and that his glory days are well behind him. Top teams favour younger managers who are data-driven and take a more scientific approach to the game.

Mourinho is still one of the best managers in world football. He can turn Chelsea around and regards the club as his spiritual home. He would love another crack at restoring it to the top tier.

In the three and a half years since the Todd Boehly-led BlueCo consortium took over Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, Mauricio Pochettino and Enzo Maresca have served as Head Coach. None have come close to Mourinho’s accomplishments at Chelsea.

The club needs a new attitude, a new approach, and to get back to winning ways. It should pair Mourinho with Chelsea’s most mercurial captain, John Terry. John Terry bleeds Chelsea blue and wants to enter management. Together, Mourinho and Terry could craft a formidable team.

Both men get on well and are fantastic at man management. They would both be up for this challenge.

Appointed in 2004 from Porto, Mourhino won six major trophies winning the Premier League title twice. He is Chelsea’s most successful manager and did so with swagger.

Thomas Tuchel managed 63 Premier League matches for Chelsea with a 56 per cent win ratio. He won 3 major trophies within his first 13 months in the job. Since then, Chelsea has fallen off.

John Terry has said he would do well working with a top-class coach he can learn from. This would be the perfect opportunity. Terry represented Chelsea 717 times. He loves the club passionately.

“ I’ve done everything at Chelsea and for me now the one thing that is missing is being a manager of the football club, hence why I went into coaching after I finished, because my dream was to go out and learn my trade a little bit.

“ You retire after 22 years playing and listen 100 per cent you learn enough to go into management, playing the level I played at and the managers that I played under.

“ It doesn’t give you the right to just go into management at a certain level, you have to learn and understand what it takes,”he is quoted as saying.

He is absolutely right on this.  Mourinho and Terry would be a dynamic duo, very much in the vain of  Brian Clough and Peter Taylor at Nottingham Forest.

Now at Benfica, Mourinho would love to return to London and take the reins at Chelsea. He still has a lot to prove and no doubt believes he can help bring even more silverware to Stamford Bridge.

Twelve years after Sir Alex Ferguson walking away as Manager of Manchester United, the club has been on a downward path. There have been eight managers since and none have come close to what he achieved. When he retired in 2013, he was 71-years old.

Jose Mourinho can still attain great heights in world football, he can still bring glory back to Stamford Bridge. The fans would love to sing his name again. He can still get the best out of John Terry.

Mourinho could be the one to lay the ground for Terry to succeed him at Chelsea.
