China doubled air passengers in 2023 compared to 2022

China’s civil aviation sector recorded double the number of air passenger trips in 2023 compared to the previous year.

According to China’s Civil Aviation Administration, the country reported close to 620 million air passengers, a 146.1 per cent increase compared to 2022.

The country also reported 7, 35 million tonnes of cargo and mail in 2023, a 21 per cent increase.

By the end of 2023, international Chinese airlines liked the country, with 127 cities across 57 other countries and 255 cities and regions domestically.

Among the country’s 38 airports, over 10 million passengers travelling.

China’s Civil Aviation Authority says it is committed to increasing the number of international flights in 2024.

Since 2024, several airlines have launched international routes to facilitate travel between China and other countries. Air China launched the Beijing-Madrid-Sao Paulo route on April 27, and China Southern Airlines launched the Shenzhen-Mexico City route on May 11. 

Later this year, Hainan Airlines is set to launch a Shenzhen-Budapest route, and China Southern Airlines will open a Guangzhou-Budapest route.
