There has been no phone conversation between the heads of state of China and the United States recently, and the two sides have not held consultations or negotiations on tariffs, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing when responding to a media query.

Guo said China’s position on the tariff war is abundantly clear. Tariff and trade wars have no winners.

“If a negotiated solution is truly what the US wants, it should stop threatening and blackmailing China, and seek dialogue based on equality, respect and mutual benefit,” he added.
