Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica Wang Jinfeng

As the new year begins, a new chapter of life unfolds.

On behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Jamaica and in my own name, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to friends from all sectors in Jamaica and the Chinese community in Jamaica!

While the year 2025 marks the completion of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development, it also records the successful convening of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, sounding the clarion call for China’s 15th Five-Year Plan.

As once-in-a-century transformations accelerate, international relations are being reshaped amidst turbulence. Nevertheless, Chinese modernisation is making solid strides in providing more stability and positive energy to the world. In the new year, China will continue to contribute our strength and wisdom to upholding world peace and promoting common development.

In 2025, China-Jamaica relations continued on a steady path and made concrete progress. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang had multiple exchanges of letters and messages with Sir Patrick Allen, Governor-General of Jamaica and Dr Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica. Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, attended the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum and other key events.

Jamaica formally joined the Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative and became a founding member of the International Organisation for Mediation. The two countries have consolidated political mutual trust, achieved fruitful results through high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and made progress in mutual exchanges and cooperation. After Jamaica was hit by Category 5 Hurricane Melissa, China promptly provided financial assistance and emergency supplies to the island. The Chinese Navy hospital ship Silk Road Ark and a team of medical experts were mobilised to provide humanitarian medical services to more than 7,000 locals, leaving a lasting mark in the history of China-Jamaica friendship.

As China starts the chapter of its 15th Five-Year Plan in 2026, Jamaica unfolds a critical year for its post-Melissa rebuilding and restoration. China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Jamaica’s Vision 2030 are closely aligned and resonate strongly with each other, offering vast opportunities for cooperation and promising development prospects.

Let us join hands and work together to overcome challenges, write a new chapter of China-Jamaica strategic partnership, deepen and add more substance to the five programs for building a China-LAC community with a shared future, and deliver greater benefits to our two countries and peoples.
