American award-winning artiste Chris Brown took to Instagram this morning (May 12) to post what seems to be a message indicating his growing maturity.

Brown was involved in church from a tender age, where he discovered his love for dancing and singing.

However, at 15 years old, he was signed to Jive Records, where he released his first, self-titled album in 2005.

Along his artistic journey, Brown got caught up in different controversies and legal troubles.

A TROD DOWN MEMORY LANE

In 2009 Brown assaulted his then girlfriend, Barbadian pop star Rihanna.

Brown was subsequently charged with felony assault and making criminal threats.

He pleaded guilty to a felony on June 22 of that year and accepted a plea deal of community labour, five years’ probation and domestic violence counseling.

His assault against Rihanna triggered a massive global reaction and, in 2018, Snapchat alluded to the incident in an ad introducing a game called ‘Would You Rather?’, where users would choose to slap Rihanna or punch her ex.

That game was not successful might I add; the ‘trolling’ didn’t work.

In other run-ins with the law, Brown was charged with two criminal counts for having restricted species in the United States without a permit: by the way, the animal involved was a capuchin monkey.

Each count carried a maximum sentence of six months in prison.

In June 2010, Brown was denied a visa to the United Kingdom because of the assault on Rihanna.

In March 2011, following an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America in which Brown was asked about the incident with Rihanna, the singer allegedly blew up in his dressing room during a commercial break and threw a chair at a window overlooking Times
Square.

Brown was clearly frustrated at this point and must have been wishing that he had never laid a finger on his RiRi!

June 14, 2012: Eight people are injured in a brawl in New York City nightclub involving Brown, rapper Drake, NBA star Tony Parker, and assorted members of the trio’s entourages.

Brown then recorded a single ‘dissing’ Drake:

Brown’s attorney claims that Drake, who has also been romantically linked to Rihanna, was the instigator of the brawl. Regardless, the pair appear to be friends today.

Later that year, Brown tested positive for marijuana while doing his community service.

He also attended a Halloween party dressed as an Islamic terrorist.

This was kind of funny, but it turned out Brown’s actions violated his restraining order taken out against him by Rihanna in the wake of the assault.

His community service was therefore extended.

January 2013: One of Brown’s entourage reportedly used a homophobic slur against Frank Ocean and Brown allegedly punched Ocean and threatened to shoot him, but no charges were pressed.

Brown’s probation was revoked again after his involvement in an alleged hit-and-run in Los Angeles. The hit-and-run charges were eventually dropped, but Brown was served with an additional 1,000 hours of community service.

Later that year, Brown was arrested for felony assault in Washington D.C. when he and his bodyguard were involved in an altercation with two men outside of a hotel.

He spent 36 hours in jail and was brought back to California to appear in court in Los Angeles.

You can see where I am going with this time line right… . Brown has been involved in chaotic, legal drama almost every year since 2009.
The latest complaint against him came in January 2019 when he was detained in Paris after a woman filed a rape complaint with the local police.

BROWN DENIED RAPE ALLEGATION

According to People, a judicial official told the Associated Press that Brown was detained on potential charges of aggravated rape and drug infractions.
Reuters reported that two other people were arrested with Brown.

“We confirm the detention in custody of Mr Chris Brown and two other individuals on charges of aggravated rape and narcotics offenses. Police custody is still in progress,” the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office told People.
The statement continued: “The judicial action that will be given will not be communicated before the end of the custody.”

Brown denied the events, sharing a photo of a graphic featuring the words ‘This B*$ch Lyin’.

“I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR…… THIS IS FALSE AND A WHOLE LOT OF [CRAP]!” he added.

Brown continued in an Instagram post, “NNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!!! FOR MY
DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO (DISRESPECTFUL) AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!!”

Brown’s custody was later lifted, though the investigation into the incident continued.

With all the drama that Brown has faced and experienced, taking to his social to post a photo exhibiting maturity is definitely worth commending him for.

It’s not a person’s past that defines them, it is who they are currently.

Today, Brown has proven to be a reliable father to his daughter, Royalty, and his younger child, son Aeko Catori.

He still produces amazing music, all while developing into the Chris Brown we all want to remember and love at the same time.

He maintains his morals, where he vowed never to physically abuse another woman.

For the sake of his children, maybe that was his turn around point.
Kudos to you! Change is possible.
